The rest of the story

by Mike on 1/31/2004

Why write an update when your fianceé does it so well?

Only thing I could add is a bit of house update. After going through a few hundred houses online (here), we went and saw some in person with a realtor. Picked one out, began the buying process, and ultimately decided not to pursue it – frustrating, but the right choice. So, the hunt continues tomorrow.

And, gentle readers, that is why it’s been a bit quiet here. Keep the faith.

The buying process is a pain in the butt. (So is the selling process.)

I note with some annoyance that my house is not in those listings. I may need to talk to my realtor about that.

We went through the same process last fall. After going to a lot of open houses and scanning 100′s of online ads, we had a list of five houses to look at come the first week of January. So our realtor took us to them, and we bought the first one on the list! Or at least, we will be buying it next month if nothing goes wrong. Despite our current success, the whole process was hellishly time-consuming, especially with small children!

Oh, and Ginger, you should be annoyed. Even when we looked at listings, we preapproved each house we saw online before even going to an open house. Your realtor needs to be shouted at — owning a house long distance just ain’t any fun at all!
