Recent highlights, in no particular order:
- Amazed Plasticfruit Man with my ability to roast my own coffee. Sent him home with a quarter pound of Java to try, haven’t heard the results yet. We might have to throw a coffee roasting party.
- Finished knitting my watchman hat, pictures to follow. I’m quite pleased with how it turns out, even if Houston is now comfortably in the mid-70s for the rest of the year. And even if it makes me look thugged out.
- Met Mac and lots of Houston folks for happy hour on Sunday. Good times had by all.
- Have come much closer to making the fajita steak that I want to be able to prepare. Skirt steak is decidedly a better cut for me than flank steak – yields more tender results. A little more tweaking should get it where I want to be.
- Rouxbe rocks.

Gotta see the photo of you in your watchman hat!
Okay, found you through christine (i knit with her on fridays. she knows me, i’m not a freak, promise) since hubby (ex-chef) and i are big foodies, love the food stuff. not a big coffee drinker (hubby is,definitely) but interesting about the stock. nice to see someone else toil over a good pot of stock for a change. i made 11 quarts of seafood stock for gumbo last week (ended up with 20 quarts of gumbo total). It only took me 6 hours from start to finish for the whole thing. good times. yum.
